The Western Christian wrestling team recorded its first dual win of the season. The Financial Peace University program begins in Hull Jan. 11. Jan. 14 - After 21 years at Iowa State Bank, Carol Vis is retiring. Otter Valley and Rolling Hills golf courses announced a sharing agreement between the two courses. Western Christian boys basketball coach Jim Eekhoff reached his 500th career win. Jan. 21 - John Doorenbos has retired from the Boyden Fire Dept. after 46 years. The City of Hull will pave Milwaukee Road this summer. Jan. 28 - Joe and Kendra Heitritter, Boyden, are preparing for two years in Paraguay, serving with the Peace Corps. Marv Meyer, Boyden, is retiring from his job with the city of Boyden. Births - Amos Gabe was born to Chad and Dawn Andriga, Hull, on Dec. 4. Volunteers from Hull 1st CRC spent a week working in Nicaragua. Feb. 11 - The Western Christian boys basketball team clinched the Lakes Conference title with a win over Spencer 82-43. Henry Brinks will celebrate his 80th birthday on Feb. 19. Feb. 18 - Members of the Hull City Council, HIDC and other business and community leaders had a goal- setting meeting on Feb. 11. Western Christian freshman Jon Grevengoed .has qualified for the state wrestling meet. Feb. 25 - Liz Warntjes was crowned Miss Hull and Ellie Hurst, Little Miss Hull at Hull's annual Awards Night. The Students of the Year were Alexis Kreun, from Boyden-Hull and Kendra Kroeze, from Western Christian. Marlyn Woelber was named a Master Pork Producer by the Iowa Pork Producers Assn. Births - Briggs Matthew was born to Matt and Briana Roetman, Hull, on Jan. 29. Arla Foods signed a letter of intent to acquire the whey processing assets of Green Meadows Foods. The Boyden-Hull faculty have set up the Wes Overman Memorial Scholarship. Mar. 11 - The new Midwest Youth Football League, for students in grades 3-6, will have an organizational meeting on Mar. 17. Western Christian defeated Unity Christian 79-57 in the sub-state basketball game and earned the right to return to the state basketball tournament. Mar. 18 Boyden-Hull Principal Marj Wagner announced her retirement after the 2008-09 school year. The Wolfpack brought home the third place trophy from the Boys State Basketball tournament in Des Moines. Kendra Roozing, Hull, and Keith Van Nyhuis, Boyden, announced their engagement and June wedding. Mar. 25 - Gina Barnes has been hired as the new club- house manager at Rolling Hills.
