,, F,00ith The Sioux.County Index Reporter Wednesday, February 11, 2009 tNER Pastor Church !!i:!::!: "What Is Love All About?" seeks love. Everyone craves love. But not everyone love, because not everyone is willing to give love. Love is such a misunderstood experience in our society. Partly, this is due to the fact that there are many dimensions to love: love for parents, love for children, love for a friend, love of spouse, the love of a romantic attachment. But how easily love is reduced to romantic love, or simply equated with sex. If so, then what love is all about is completely forgotten. The Bible paints a much different picture of love than what we find in popular society: It often comes as a big disappointment to discover that love is not a romantic attraction or a sexual urge. Both have their place. But neither romantic nor sexual love can form the basis of a-lasting relation- ship, and a lasting love is exactly what the Bible says love is and the kind of love most people truly desire ("Love never fails" 1 Corinthians 13:8). The first blush of romantic love seems like something that will last forever. As you give of yourself seeking to please the person who is the object of your affections, you build up in your mind a beauti- ful, but alas, usually unrealistic picture of what the person is really like. Sooner or later, you have to face the fact that the love of your life has faults and shortcomings. Your must either learn to love that person with his or her peculiarities, or eventually, the relationship will die. True love is built on the willingness to accept the other person as he or she is, and not try to remake that person rote your ideal. The key here is to know the innermost thoughts, feelings, and concerns of your beloved, and respond accordingly. A true and lasting bond of love is formed in the reciprocal meeting of each other's emotional needs. In addressing the topic of love in 1 Corinthians 13, the Bible focuses on giving of oneself for the ben- efit of the other. So often we enter into a love relationship thinking solely of what we are going to get out of it: Even when we deny it, such selfish motives are often true. Love, a true and lasting love, will grow only when we grow out of selfish motives for love and learn to love like Jesus, as we give of our- selves for the benefit of others. ]rue hig h-speed that, unlike cable Internet, will not slow during high-traffic times 24/7 tech support gl Free DSL modem rental ",d,-drm IYIO.
