Box 440, Hull, 51239 Twisting the Truth At one time or another, it seems that almost everyone will distort or twist the truth. By rationalizing or making excuses, we try to spread the blame around or even absolve ourselves of any responsibility. It increasingly seems more difficult to admit that we have made a mis- take or have done something wrong because of poor judgement. Perhaps this is partially due to the fact that we live in a society that at times can be so unforgiving. However, even in the early days of the Bible when God asked Adam if he had eaten the fruit he was told not to eat, Adam answered that the woman who was put there with him gave him the fruit, and he ate it. Perhaps, Adam thought that by involving the woman God gave him, he could spread the blame around or that this would be a good excuse for his disobedience. Admitting the truth and accepting the responsibility for our inappro- priate actions is often difficult, and it requires honesty and integrity. Everyone makes mistakes, and God is aware of our frailties; but, improving our character and living a virtuous life is necessary to be part of God's family. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. K.J.V.
